EXPERIENCE
5 Points Elementary, S prigboro, Oh — Student Teacher 12 Weeks
- 5 Points Elementary was my first student teaching placement, where I had 40 elementary classes a week. The classes ranged from second grade up to fifth grade. Within the classes I had over 1000 students.
- I worked with my cooperating teacher throughout my 12 week placement gradually controlling more of the classes. For most of the placement I was in control of half of the classes and for the second half of the placement I was in charge of 25 of the 40 classes.
- My main focus was the fifth grade, I was in control of the entire fifth grade including any grading. For the other grades I was in control of half of the classes.
- I worked closely with my cooperating teacher to learn more about budgeting, classroom management, and leadership roles within the classroom and school.
- I also helped prepare the school musical, art show, and different displays throughout the school.
- I also organized the student teachers and created a meeting time, for all of the student teachers to check in and motivate each other.
- During this time I am remotely teaching 6 high school classes, through many digital resources.
- The Mary Haven Youth Center Art Project was a research project in which I planned a visual art curriculum for secondary students at Mary Haven Youth Center in Lebanon, Ohio. Mary Haven serves up to 36 residents ranging from the ages 12 to 18 who have been declared delinquent.
- I learned how to plan and effectively run an art classroom for students with diverse needs and created important visual art experiences for an underserved population.More specifically, I taught a 4-lesson sequence that culminates with an art show.
- This project had a multitude of benefits for me, the most beneficial being the real world application of concepts that I have learned in my art education classes.
- I planned and effectively ran an art classroom for middle school students within the Saturday Art program.
- More specifically, I taught 5 lessons that culminated with an art show for the students, parents, and teachers.
